Monday blues: Getting out of your rut.

Last week this time my week started off with this this pretty screensaver, as some of you already know…

I thought I’d share some tips and ideas of how you can get rid of the Monday blues or get out of the rut you may find yourself in. We all have our moments when computers fail us or we just can’t seem to get the creative juices going. The important thing is to not give up and not freak out, it will be ok.

For some of us, the key to getting out of our comatose state is simply to get up, moved past our failures and embrace change. If you are sitting around waiting for the ideal circumstances or for the sun, moon and stars to align, nothing is ever going to happen or get done. Rather look for ways to apply yourself; be on the lookout for opportunities to grow and start creating the right atmosphere and conditions to be productive instead of waiting for them.

You’ll find that once you have started doing something you love it creates a sort of momentum that just pushes you forward. We all know the saying ‘success breeds success’ all too well, so start with something small; invest in doing what you love.
The word responsibility means ADMIN and a lot of it. Yes, I hate it but I have to face it.

The best way to tackle all those things you don’t like is to stop procrastinating. Schedule a time and go sit in a quiet corner with a cup of coffee or pack of nibbles and just do it, go for your badge. I make a deal with myself that for every 15 minutes that pass I can get up and stretch my legs. It’s silly but works for me.

Even the best jobs require us to do things we don’t like. Maybe you even flat out don’t like your job. It is important to invest time doing the things that makes you tick & tickle. Sometimes we have to suck it up and do what we don’t want to now so that we can do what we love later. VISION is important, have a plan to move forward and work towards your strengths and never stop dreaming big!

Other useful tips to help snap out of the blues:

  • Drink enough water and always keep hydrated. Avoid overwhelming your body with a whole lot of water. It’s much more effective to just continuously have a little bit of water every few minutes.
  • Exercise is another word for anger management for me and it’s the best therapist I can afford 🙂
  • Eat healthy! I found this awesome article about important brain food – Eat Smart for a Healthier Brain – and since then I’ve been juicing and making sure I put the good stuff in to get the performance I need during a working day.
  • If you are not happy, make some changes! This is not always as simple as it sounds but start by making small changes like reading for 10 min on a topic that is relevant to your challenges in life. Most often, the gap between where you are and where you want to be comes down to what you don’t know.
  • Take a breather. Yes I am all for working hard but sometimes you need to make time for yourself and just breathe. I like doing Yoga, Pilates and sometimes just sitting in the warm winter sun for 5 min at the office to recharge.
  • Talk to a friend and share the load, it always helps.
  • Do something new that inspires you or exposes you to something different that will help you grow. It’s not always good to get stuck in a comfort zone because it usually prevents you from doing something that will challenge you.
  • Spend time with successful and positive people, they will stretch and encourage you.
  • Have creative brainstorming sessions with your team, colleagues or friends.
  • Lastly, get a good night’s rest. Nothing can substitute this and its effect is invaluable.

These are just some tips I use to help motivate myself. If you have any tips you want to share please comment below. Share the love this Monday and help us motivate the blues away!
